Work Study Program
The Uniontown Area School District recognizes that our students have diverse needs and promotes the Cooperative Education Work Study Program for students who want to experience the work environment. The program is available to seniors who are on track to graduate and who have a work permit issued by the district. Students enrolled in the program have the option to be released at either 11 AM, to be at the work site by 11:30am until 2:30pm; or 1:00pm to be at the work site by 1:30 PM until 2:30pm. Interested students should see their assigned guidance counselor who will review their progress toward graduation, and then refer them to the work-study supervisor if they are eligible to participate in the program

PA Summer Programs and Camps for High School Students
United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar – Experience first class academic, athletic and professional training at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country. This is exclusively for Juniors interested in pursuing an appointment to the United States Naval Academy.
United States Naval Academy Summer STEM Program – Week long camp where participants will create, build and explore in world-class lab facilities. For students entering 9-11th grade the following school year.
Eye Con 2020 – Experiencing Your Environment through Conservation Summer Institute June 17-19, 2020. Required Orientation Day is April 4, 2020.
Adventures in Health Care Professions July 17-19, 2018 – Penn State Fayette – Only $90 for the week! Space is limited!
Keystone Boys State – week long program sponsored by the PA American Legion takes place at Shippensburg University
Keystone Girls State – a weeklong simulated government immersive learning experience. Girls (juniors only) will assume leadership roles in mock cities to learn more about the legislative process and branches of government. See Mrs. Baker for more info and an application.
National Youth Science Camp – a residential science education program for young STEM enthusiasts the summer after they graduate from high school. Students are challenged academically in exciting lectures and hands-on studies, and have voluntary opportunities to participate in an outdoor adventure program, gain a new and deep appreciation for the great outdoors, and establish friendships that last a lifetime. PA School for Excellence in the Agricultural Sciences– a program of intensive study in the Agricultural Sciences which combines classroom, lab and field based instruction with a research based service learning component.

Penn State's Conservation Leadership School – If your ideal classroom includes over 700 acres of forest, fields, wetlands and streams, then this is for you! June 21 – 27, 2020. The Fayette County Conservation District is offering a full scholarship worth $495.00 to attend this program. You can return to Mrs. Baker or mail directly to Conservation District Office.
Girl Gov – Open to high school girls in PA, Girl Gov provides opportunities to learn more about government, philanthropy, community involvement, women's history and leadership.
Pa Free Enterprise Week – "PFEW is a unique & challenging program that provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about our free enterprise system". Students can chose from five different weeks and locations. Fayette county students can attend this program for only $100, thanks to generous donations from local businesses and the Eberly Foundation. PFEW Flyer
Fallingwater Photography Workshop
Fallingwater Expressions & Explorations – Are you an aspiring writer, artist? This program offers a series of poetry, short story & graphic novel workshops this summer. There is also an apprenticeship program where students can spend the week exploring museum careers by job-shadowing Fallingwaters's professional staff.
PA Master Naturalist Program – must be 18 years old.
Phoenix Arts Center – Variety of classes and workshops at their downtown studios!
Touchstone Center for Crafts – This craft school offers a wide variety of classes ranging from blacksmithing to painting. Touchstone offers teen week scholarships for students ages 14-17 which cover 100% tuition, room and board. Apply by April 1, 2020.
Westinghouse Science Honors Institute – See Mrs. Baker for an application!
The Black Male Leadership Development Institute The BMLDI brings together African American boys (grades 9-12) for a year long program full of educational experiences and leadership opportunities.
State Police Youth Week – Run like a boot camp, interested students are introduced to the fields of law enforcement and armed forces. Open to males and females ages 15 – 17.
University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy – open to academically talented sophomores or juniors with an interest in health careers.
Robert Morris University – RMU offers a variety of summer programs for high school students. More info here
Wildlife Leadership Academy – Become a certified Conservation Ambassador by attending on the 5 day residential summer field schools: white-tailed deer, bass, brook trout, ruffed grouse and black bear. See Mrs. Baker if you would like to be nominated for admission. wildlife-leadership-academy

Miami University Summer Scholars Program – Current sophomores and juniors have the opportunity to spend two weeks on campus exploring a topic of their choice alongside faculty and professionals. Students will learn about the college application process, financial aid and leadership. Miami University
Chevron Stem Camp – Penn State Fayette hosts a week long event that features hands-on educational experiences focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The program is free, but enrollment is limited. Dates are June 18 – 22 and June 25 – 29. https://fayette.psu.edu/ce/youth

Introduction to Athletic Training – Sponsored by UPMC Sports Medicine, this annual workshop is ideal for students who are interested in a career i athletic training or who wish enhance the skills they use daily in their high school athletic training rooms.
HOBY – Advanced Leadership Academy – Juniors and Seniors can register for this exciting summer program and earn up to 5 transferable credits from George Mason University by completing the program and implementing their project.
Summer Health Career Academy – This is five day academy is designed for academically inclined 9th and 10th graders that wish to pursue a career in healthcare. - students will work with a certified Drone Instructor from Steel City Drone Academy
- students will produce a commercial for a local business using drone footage
- students get to keep the drone
- students can earn up to $10 per hour

Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps – Summer Crews
Ten Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps Summer Program offers young people, ages 15 to 18, the opportunity to serve on a team completing conservation projects to conserve, enhance and restore Pennsylvania's public lands. Jon a crew of 10 members and two leaders working on trail maintenance, habitat restoration, vegetation management, park maintenance, light construction and more. Environmental educational and job skills trainings are also provided. De note that the work can be physically demanding and takes place outdoors in all weather conditions.
